[ Plymouth ]

We gather every Sunday 10:30am at the Plymouth School of Creative Arts, PL1 3EG. You’d be so welcome to join us, why not come along this week and say hi?

Churches come in all kinds of shapes and sizes, it can be hard to know what to expect, which can make turning up for the first time a daunting prospect. When you come to a gathering at Redeemer Church we want you to feel welcomed, part of us and relaxed, as such, we thought you might appreciate a little explanation of what a typical Redeemer Sunday gathering looks like.

Finding us & Parking

There are many ways to get to us on a Sunday. As we are in the city centre we have lots of local transport links. If you are travelling by bus get off just past the Octagon Roundabout on Union Street and walk down towards the Ferry Port. If you are using your Sat-Nav the postcode for the School is PL1 3EG. If you are travelling by car there is free parking in the school playground just behind the building. There is also a reasonable amount of on street parking around the building and a pay and display car park next to the building on Martin Street.

Meeting

In our meetings we normally spend 30-40 minutes singing songs of thanks for who God is and what He has done (words to the songs are projected on a screen). Please feel free to join in or just observe in whatever way makes you most comfortable. We also normally have a short time of sharing news, and we take up an offering. Guests are not expected to give money at this point (although you are welcome to) and no-one will mind if you don’t. The children usually head to age specific groups at this point in the meeting, you can find out more about that but visiting our ‘Redeemer Kids’ page.

There will be about 40 minutes of teaching from the Bible. We believe this to be an important element of our worship and is a key reason for us gathering together. We also regularly take communion together as part of our worship in remembrance of the death and resurrection of Jesus.

After the service people tend to hang around to chat and have a tea or coffee. There is an info point at which you can pick up more information about the church, or talk to a member of our Welcome Team if this would be helpful.

Leadership

Redeemer Church Plymouth is lead by a team of elders. Currently the elders are Grant Van Schalkwyk, Toby Friend and Owen Hayward. The eldership team are responsible for guiding, governing, and guarding the church. Whilst 'lead elder' is not a biblical title, we recognise that all teams have a leader and Owen leads the Redeemer eldership team. There is also a growing staff team that helps with the running of the church and different areas of church life are led and served by volunteers.

Grant And Suz

Grant & Suze VanSchalkwyk

Grant and Suze moved to Plymouth from Honiton, where Grant was an elder at The Community Church Honiton, in 2009 with their 2 children Chloe and Joel. They have a passion to raise leaders so that more churches can be planted in order for people to hear and know the good news of Jesus. In their spare time they enjoy long walks with their dog around Plymouths spectacular coastline and getting together with their friends, which usually involves food and plenty of laughs!
Toby and Katy

Toby & Katy Friend

Toby came to Plymouth from Sussex to study and having joined Redeemer Church (then known as Waterfront Church) as a student he decided to stay. Katy moved from Sussex when the couple married after university. Toby now works part time as a Maths teacher in a local secondary school and volunteers a couple of days a week for the church. Toby and Katy enjoy walking and spending time with friends, Toby also has a real love of stargazing.

Owen & Jenny Hayward

Owen and Jenny moved to Plymouth from Southampton in the spring of 2011 to join the team at Redeemer Church, straight away they fell in love with Britains Ocean City and over the past years that love for the people and place of Plymouth has continued to grow. They have 4 young children, so home is never a quiet place, but it is a lot of fun! As a family they enjoy time outside walking and being active. Their real passion though is seeing people respond to the good news of Jesus by loving God and loving others.

[ life groups ]

'Life Groups are where we share our lives together as a church family; eating, praying, worshipping, socialising and seeking to impact the community around us with the good news of Jesus Christ.'
